Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) –

Election for Hypnotherapy’s Profession Specific Board (PSB) Members

We have now been advised by the CNHC of the timetable for the forthcoming election process for Members of its Profession Specific Board (PSB) for Hypnotherapy. *Any practitioner who is registered within the CNHC’s hypnotherapy section is entitled to stand for election to this PSB and we would consequently encourage all such GHR practitioners with an interest in becoming involved with CNHC’s work to consider doing so. Each of the CNHC’s sections has its own PSB and each PSB is comprised of four Members that are elected by the registered practitioners of its respective section to stand for a three year period.

We are pleased to advise you that Georgina Broom, who has been an Administrator within the GHR for the last ten years and whose name will consequently be known to many of you, will be standing for election and we sincerely hope that those practitioners who are registered within the CNHC’s hypnotherapy section (and are therefore entitled to vote), will cast their vote in her favour. We shall, of course, be pleased to include the names of any other GHR practitioners who intend to stand for election (and who inform us accordingly) within our next News E-Bulletin, in order that they may also be considered as recipients for your vote.

Notwithstanding the GHR’s legitimate right to canvass on behalf of named candidates in this way, it is essential to understand that those elected to a PSB are there to represent the entire profession and to show no particular favour to any one professional association. Certainly the CNHC shows no bias in favour of any particular professional body and would presumably neither expect nor tolerate this from its PSB Members.

N.B. We understand that the CNHC will be sending out an email to its registered hypnotherapy practitioners on Friday 17 April, setting out the full details and inviting *those who meet its published criteria (see https://www.cnhc.org.uk/assets/pdf/1-039.pdf) to stand for election.

Obituary – Jackie Curry (Announced by Dominic Beirne)

With great regret and sadness, I want to announce the death of Jackie Curry who was a very dear friend and trainer of mine at The Dominic Beirne School of Clinical Hypnosis and Psychotherapy.

Jackie had been battling cancer for over a year but sadly lost the battle at the end of March this year.

Jackie qualified as a Hypnotherapist and an NLP Practitioner in 2000 after training with me at my School, and subsequently registered with the GHR in June 2001.

In 2003 she joined my School as one of my assistant trainers and was part of my training team right up to the last few month of her illness.

Even though she was told by Doctors that the cancer was incurable, she never gave up hope and would always be in a positive state of mind, utilising self-hypnosis on a daily basis.

She will be sorely missed by her husband and her family, her friends – and by me.

RIP Jackie Curry.

Possible Scam Alert

We are grateful to John Moonie (Perth) for sending us the following warning:

“It may be of some interest to members to note that there is a letter circulating about registering your VAT information on ‘UK – DATA CONTROL / Scotland Business’ website. It’s a new variation on an old theme where adding an entry is free (they do it for you in advance!) but updating it as suggested in the letter is far from it. £790 to be precise! (Ed. This doesn’t relate to the EU VAT/MOSS situation – see the February ‘15 GHR E-bulletin, ‘New EU VAT Legislation on Digital Download Products’).

Anyone entering into this contract (by filling out the form) can look forward to being committed to £790 annually for 3 years and then renewable after that. I have no doubt similar letters are being produced for ‘England Business’ or similar.

In fact it’s not actually a scam as you are invited to enter into a contract. Just that if you’re rather busy and think it’s official, which it purports to be, you may be light of £2,370 once you send the envelope off…”

As John says, this is indeed a variation on a previous theme – and one that we had hoped had disappeared long ago. All we can do is urge any practitioner who receives this material (and who is VAT registered and therefore a potential ‘victim’) to ignore it completely and to remain eternally vigilant for any other offers of doubtful origin that may be presented to them.
