The GHR is currently the largest professional registering organisation for practising hypnotherapists in the UK. Apart from the significant credibility that registration bestows, we also provide a wide range of regularly updated membership benefits. We are additionally the administrators for the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council (GHSC), which currently represents in excess of 180 separate professional bodies and training schools. The GHSC is responsible for overseeing the criteria for the ongoing registration of individual practitioners within the GHR and for the assessment and validation of hypnotherapy training courses which lead to that registration.

Both the GHR and GHSC were prominent participants within the Working Group for Hypnotherapy Regulation whose primary purpose was to facilitate agreed standards within the profession and subsequently bring about voluntary self-regulation (VSR) - an officially recognised status - for the entire industry. To that end the Group actively co-operated with other industry representatives within the Hypnotherapy Regulatory Forum (HRF) - a body part funded by the Department of Health - and as a consequence VSR was finally established via the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) when it admitted Hypnotherapy into its Department of Health sponsored regulatory system on 1st December 2010. Since that date, all GHR registrants holding full Practitioner Level status (or above) have been eligible for fast track registration within the CNHC.  Read more 

The GHR is structured as a commercial sector executive agency, resourced by specialist CAM administrators, and registration is open to any practitioner who is able to satisfy the criteria with regard to both training and ongoing requirements as determined from time to time by the GHSC. 

All GHR registered  practitioners  are  required  to  accept  our  published Code of Ethics  and  Complaints & Disciplinary Procedure.
